High Energy Centrifugal Barrel GCB Series

GCB-Series High Energy Tumbling Machines

GCB High Energy series Centrifugal Barrel Finishing (CBF) systems from Giant Finishing are the fastest and most economical form of finishing machine available. Often called “tumblers” or harperizers, they are the industry workhorse in metal polishing, deburring and deflashing parts. From jet engine blades in the aerospace industry to precision fire arm parts, gears and medical implants, these tumbling machines are the versatile and money-saving solution for polishing, deburring, and overall surface finishing improvement.

Special Features: High Speed- GCB-Series centrifugal barrel finishers can debur and polish parts in a fraction of the time compared with other conventional methods. A part that takes four hours to finish in a vibratory tumbler can be done in just 20 minutes. Single digit Ra surface finishes are possible. Divided Barrels-image001 (1).jpg A key advantage with barrel tumbling is the ability to easily separate small parts into their own compartment through the use of barrel dividers. This helps to avoid part-on-part impingement and damage from parts hitting each other. Variable Frequency Control- With the ability to control the speed of the tumble, the operator can polish and achieve finer finishing at lower speeds. Higher speeds allow for aggressive deburring and edge radiusing. Safe and Easy Operation- The integral hood switch and two-button jog requirement makes GCB-Series machines extremely safe to operate. The hood is securely locked during cycles. Timers and industrial switches and controls make running the machine simple. The barrel cover lift eliminates the heavy lifting. Isotropic Finishing- The finish achieved by centrifugal barrel tumbling machines is isotropic. This means the surface is consistent in all directions unlike hand polishing. How it Works image002 (2).jpgCentrifugal barrel finishing machines operate on the “Ferris Wheel” principle with a one- to-one ratio of barrel rotation to turret rotation. Each of the four barrels is loaded to roughly 50-80% full of media, parts, water, and compound. During operation, rotation of the turret creates a sliding force inside the barrel. This motion causes parts and media to contact each other in random or isotropic directions. The resulting finish is consistent across the entire surface of the part. Giant provides complete sample processing, and stocks all required media and supplies. Let Giant Finishing help you create the correct recipe for finishing your parts. Our elite team of metal finishing experts can help you pick the correct size, shape, and composition of media to work with the correct chemistry to create a recipe specifically designed for your parts.

Barrel Dividers

A unique feature with barrel tumbling is the ability to create small separate chambers within each barrel. Dividers help reduce part-on-part impingement.

PROCESSING TABLE AND SLUDGE TANK

Reduce the mess from the process with processing table and sludge tank. Sediment from your tumbling process is collected and easily cleaned out.

SCREEN SEPARATOR

Make the media and part separation process simple by adding a vibratory media separator. Rotate the barrels to dump media and parts onto the vibratory screen and watch as the media and your parts separate.
